According to Fedex tracking, the 7/7a empennage I ordered is one box at 34 lbs. According to Van's (http://www.vansaircraft.com/pdf/weights.pdf), I should have two crates at a total of 88 lbs. Any idea whose right? I'm assuming right now that Van's has since gone with different shipping methods that have reduced weight/quantity. Sorry for the newbie question.

I might take it as a bad omen if my very first order got screwed up.

i think you will find there are two boxes and one is 34 lbs while the other is a bit heavier... if it hasn't arrived yet then you can't say which you are tracking... I think Van's will make sure you get the "right stuff"....

The older kits had three pieces of 3/4" partical board
to make the jigs. They were about 1' x 2' each.
Since the jigs are no longer needed,
I would guess the weight could be quite a bit less.
If Van's hasn't corrected the web site, that would
account for some difference.

Edit: Van's updated the website info in October 2006.

My RV-8 empennage came in two boxes of genuine cardboard on one Fed Ex ticket. If the order is anomalous, it's just an opportunity to experience Van's great customer service a little earlier in the process. :)

You should have 2 tracking codes, one for each box. I wouldn't worry about it because they will probably come at the same time.
