UAT are being advertised as 2020 compliant using any transponder with mode C
Does that mean that if using a UAT that it would be compliant coupled with either a class 1 or Class 2 mode c capable transponder?

Thanks for reposting the info. I sure could never figure that out by reading regs tso stuff. It puts me to sleep.

Uavionix claims that any mode C or S transponder will do the job.

Since you will receive many different opinions on forums, perhaps you should contact the UAT manufacturer to confirm.

RE: UAT vs Transponder Class

FAA Advisory Circular AC 20-165 rev B, which provides guidance for airworthiness approval of ADS-B specifies:

"For the UAT link, 16 watts minimum transmit power at the antenna is required."

A FreeFlight Ranger ADS-B UAT outputs 40 watts max at the antenna after 2dB connector/cable loses.

I haven't found anything that says a Mode C transponder that was acceptable for use today won't be acceptable for use with ADS-B in 2020, so +1 on what Ron77 posted earlier in this discussion.
