I am getting ready to install my pitot and need to cut off some the the aluminum tube that comes out of the pitot. Since this end will get a flare I am concerned that using a tube cutter will mar the end enough so that the flare will be not so good. These are really small tubes. I am using the Safe Air poly-tube for the main runs but I have to deal with the transition from the aluminum pitot (Dynon) to the poly tube.

So the question is what do you folks us to cut the small diameter tubes? I have use your basic copper pipe cutter for the tube we make bushings out of but I just sand way the mared ends by putting the tube in the drill press and run it down on a file or sandpaper.

I appreciate any recommendations.

Cheers

I used a basic Cu tube cutter for the Al lines in my fuel tanks, which wouldn't fit in a drill press of course. Dressed the end of a cut on a HF disk sander, deburred the material on the inner edge, a little scotch-brite to break the sharp outer edge. Flares turned out nice.
