I tried all the forum tips I could find on trimming the canopy, did not get along very well with any of them. I finally fired up the air powered mini belt sander from Harbor Freight with a 60 grit belt, and it worked the best for me. I then smoothed it down with a three inch die grander disc, then to final sand with block sander.

Don, Cover up that canopy above the edge with something thicker than the plastic. If that sander starts walkin' on ya, you won't like it. You'll need something substantial up there anyway when you start having fun with fibreglas!

Belt sander worked for me. Only I used the 4" with 80 grit, and ran the belt with the grain. It cut fine without too much heat. You are on the right track.
