I remember reading somewhere that in the empennage kit, Vans usually gives you scrap pieces of aluminum.

I've found a small pile (maybe 7-8 sheets) of rectangle sheets of aluminum, ~3" by 10" . There's a bar code on it saying "Trim Bundle". Are they the scrap pieces or I'll need them for building the empennage...

I'm asking that because I want to try out some primers.

Strange Timing ...

I've been clearing off portions of my workbench the past couple of days and I found exactly what you described -

Since I've been flying now for 4+ yrs, and this bundle has never been opened, it's safe to say that you don't really need it ;o)
 
I only used a small portion of my trim bundle for fabricating odd parts, the majority is not used.
