I have been told that when converting from a tricycle configuration to a tailwheel configuration that the airplane must enter into a Phase 1 testing period.

Question: Does the airplane need to be inspected and by whom? DAR/FAA?

Question: Is a new registration issued since the aircraft type changed?

Question: How long is the Phase 1 period if required?

Thank you in advance!

Typically no inspection needed.
No new registration since the type has not changed (it is still whatever you originally designated it)
My phase I repeat was 5 hours.

That was my experience. I don't know if it is typical or not. Ask Mel.....

I would suggest you make a new weight and balance............as well as noting the changes in the airframe log.

As others have said...
Greg, Dave Dormier, & I have been there.
My model # has not changed as you can call it what ever you want on the original AW.
I would have liked to change it to a 7 from a 7 A but there was push back from the FSDO.
FWIW, I don't think they totally understood the A designation
