Hi All,

Waiting on my tail kit here... reading through many builder sites and just finished up my practice kit. The trailing edge riveting (double-flush) and formation on that practice kit was somewhat difficult, but I'm not seeing where this technique is used on the RV-8 kit -- many builder sites I'm seeing form the trailing edge with a homemade break and there is no double-flush riveting of the skins for elevators/rudder.

Am I missing something?

trailing edge

The control surfaces of the 8 are made up of a single piece of bent aluminum.
The skins are pre bent and need a little further bending to close them up.
A method to do this is described in the builders manual.
There are no double flush rivets on any of the trailing edges.
I have built both and each method presents its own challenge.

Thanks for the replies. I noticed a lot of -7 build logs mentioning using the double-flush method, so that explains that.

I guess I'll tackle the -8's own challenges as I come upon them. :)

Work Smarter, Not Harder

Not all that challenging but while you are waiting, you can save time by making up the simple brake as called out in the builders manual. It is required to finish bending the trailing edges. Plan ahead and have stuff ready when you need it. ;)
