My son has expressed an interest in helping me in the shop with my RV8. I noticed that Van's offers a toolbox practice kit that I thought would be ideal as a small project for my son. We spent the other afternoon building it, and we both had a great time. He was really into it and rivets better than I do!!!:p All that is left is to paint and install handle.

Double your pleasure

Building your own airplane is great. Having your son involved in the project is priceless! The tool box looks terrific.

I just forwarded this to my Girlfriend and she thought it was great. It really shows how a family can truly be involved in one of these projects. Great way to spend time with Dad and learn something to boot. I still remember when my Dad was teaching to to use his tools to make a couple of woodworking projects together. Now that my Dad has passed I truly appreciate those memories and I hope that I can do that with my kids (when I have them).

THANKS!!!!!

Good job! Thanks for posting this. My son is just starting a practice kit. It really is a neat thing to behold. I showed him your photos and told him to get busy.

I decided to take a break from my fuel tank and build a toolbox for my cousin's 3rd birthday. His dad was very influential in getting me interested in all things mechanical through a car restoration we did when I was a teenager. Anyhow, I'm sure someday my cousin will really appreciate this toolbox, because there is no doubt in my mind he will have tools to fill it with!

Anyhow, I followed the plans with a few deviations and it came out great! I made a wood handle from oak dowel that I finished with Tung Oil, and I also engine turned a small plate and had it engraved with his name at a local trophy shop. As usual with this type of thing, the pictures do not do the engine turning justice - it looks fantastic in the sun!

Wife hooked on Tool boxes

One of the wives of a RV'er has gotten hooked on these tool box kits and has built and given as shower/wedding/b-day gifts 6-8 at last count.

Nice wooden handle

I haven't quite finished my tool box, and I think I will follow your idea about the wooden dowel for the handle.

Nice job, and congrats on getting another person involved!
