Does anyone know where to get a current list of sites where TIS-A traffic is available? I have seen the Garmin page but wanted more detail.

I flew Ryan back to school in Madison, WI today and was surprised to have TIS-A traffic from Fort McCoy all the way to Madison(It was TIS-A, b/c I did not have the GDL-39 with me). I thought the traffic might be erroneous, but Chicago Center called the traffic I saw on the 396.

All I can figure is Madison and maybe Volk Field now have TIS-A capable radar.

Any thoughts?

Volk Might have it....

4/18/2008 - VOLK FIELD, WI -- No, I'm not referring to Brett Favre retiring. I'm talking about some of the equipment used in the Volk Field Radar Approach Control (RAPCON). Since the RAPCON opened their fixed facility in February of 1999, they have been controlling the skies using the GPN-20/TPX-42 RADAR system. The system was taken out of DEPOT after being decommissioned when K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI closed. Volk Field's RADAR maintenance team patched up the antiquated equipment and made a reliable system once again. However, MSgt Scot Kyser has been working since 2000 on obtaining a new, RADAR system called Digital Airport Surveillance Radar (DASR) and Standard Terminal Automation Replacement Systems (STARS).

MSgt Kyser worked feverishly with numerous agencies throughout the process to make the changeover possible on March 6th. MSgt Kyser spoke highly of the new capabilities. "The DASR and STARS will enable Volk Field to bring long range radar feed from adjacent FAA facilities. Likewise, the FAA will be able to use our radar feed and significantly reduce some of the limitations they used to experience, i.e. a center controller will be able to see an aircraft down to 500 feet hear Volk Field; whereas, one
couldn't see below 5,000 feet before".
