Need to get a new tire.

They currently have 5.00-5 - 4 ply tires on them.

One is really worn. Other one still looks okay.

I was thinking just change to 6 ply and go to retreads like these? Not sure if they will require any trimming on the wheel pants.

Any ideas?

Any reason why should I stick with 4 ply tires?

One reason I might stay with 4 ply tire would be if i just change one tire right now.

I've been running retreads from Desser on all of my airplanes for over 30 years now without issues. We run these 6-plys on our RV-3, -6, and -8.

I have heard that running 6 ply is not recommended due to the stiffness of the sidewall transferring more shock to the landing gear and airframe.

I have Monster retreads on my Cherokee and would buy them again but not sure if they are available for 5.00-5 wheels.

6-ply is pretty much the norm for replacement RV tires and Monster retreads are indeed available for 5.00-5 wheels:

I worry more about my landings transferring shock to the airframe than the 6-ply tires.......
