Forced, against my will, to use an offset rivet set, I discovered that if you wrap a few rubber bands around the set and kind of tangle them up with the retaining spring, you can keep the set from rotating. Not a big deal if you have someone to buck, so you can hold the set in one hand and the gun in the other, but for solo riveting, or in tight places it seems to work well.
 
A few wraps with electrical tape works well to keep the rivet set from rotating. I often to this instead of using the spring, which gives you more clearance for tight spots.
