The 500lb Hydraulic tabe

is wonderful for lifting the larger Sam James cowling up in place without scratching paint or involving friends I don't have..:)

But its Really good at lifting the wing so you can yank the wheel off.

Harbor Freight English wheel

$259 for an English wheel is amazing. I've got a few of their tools - some have been junk and some have been rugged and serviceable - none are pretty. Generally I stay away from anything that has a motor (but my $30 1/2 Hp drill press deal is an exception). I bought an 8" vise from them that has been very helpful and 1/3 the cost of an equivalent tool at Home Depot. They have a combination brake and roll press I've wanted (and seen mentioned positively here) but the English wheel will likely come first - a tool that I've wanted to learn to use. Thanks!

I'm not a big fan of Chinese tools, but might be good enough for occassional use.

Get ready to make a lot of scrap learning to use either of these tools. Using them is as much art as skill...


Also: On my el-cheapo HF drill press, the center of the chuck and the center of rotation are close, but not coincident. Also, I had an HF metal cutting bandsaw that made one cut, then forevermore refused to keep the blade on the wheels. (I "accidently" left it in the shop the last time I moved.) Now I look right past HF tools with motors. :rolleyes: More and more I'm finding that I get what I pay for...
