I see past posts about replacing the stock Van's tailwheel assy with another brand when the bushing goes bad but I haven't seen much about replacing the bushing in the stock unit.
Anyone have a manufacturer's part number for the original bronze bushing?
I understand that a little machining is required but that doesn't appear too difficult to do.

No real machining is required just to replace a bushing. You can "machine" the required groove with a steady hand and a Dremel tool. Done it many times.

The hard part is getting the old bronze bushing out. Get a chisel, hammer, and be prepared to chip it out.

New bushings can be found online or at any bearing supply store.

If you have access to a milling machine, or are creative with a drill press and vise, a 5/8" end mill will make short work of machining the required groove mentioned above.

If you built an airplane, you can do this job. Or you know someone who can!!

I ordered a new bushing from McMaster-Carr

Part # 9368T157 "Bronze Sleeve Bearing, for 1/2" shaft diameter, 5/8" OD, 1-1/2" length"

Be sure to measure YOUR tailwheel to ensure fit.
