Regarding Lycoming engine assembly...

I am not using a mechanical tachometer in my RV project. It seems like the whole tachometer shaft assembly that mounts on the camshaft could be omitted from the engine. Bad idea? What have you other amateur engine assemblers done?

I left mine in

Hi Brian,
I had the same thoughts, but decided to leave mine in. The shaft has a seal right where the tach cable would screw on. Without the shaft you have to use a screw on cover and preferably the type that has safety wire ears. This cover would need to seal pretty good also.

I don't have a cover on mine, and don't really plan on installing one.
