The cartoon strip Brewster Rockit has started a discussion of switch panel layout. The link goes to the beginning cartoon, copied below.
The on-line cartoon has arrows to the newer cartoon.
Incidentally, on my Mac with Firefox, I have to click on the on-line cartoon to get it to display on the screen. Otherwise it's too big.
