I see in the archives where folks attach the starter to the right post (See picture below) and the shunt/master solenoid connection to the left post. but would it matter if I conected the starter to the left post and the shunt/master solenoid connection to the right post?

Test your solenoid to make sure that it doesn't get it's power from the battery side. If it does not, then it can be installed either way.

If i recall, the master does. But the starter does not. Test, but you should be good.
 
On the starter contactor you can supply power to either side because the coil is energized by supplying power (it's internally grounded). The master contactors work just the opposite - the coil is connected to the battery side internally and you turn it on by supplying ground to the other side of the coil.
