I replaced my alternator and installed a new belt about 10 hours ago. After flying 2 hours, I landed for fuel. 20 minutes later on startup I heard a squealing sound that lasted 15 to 20 seconds and then went away.

It sounded like a car with a loose or glazed fan belt that I've heard before. Does the alternator belt typically need to retightened after a short period of time? Does it sound like it could be some other issue?

Thanks for your responses,

Mike

You've only got one belt on the airplane, and it's only got two points of contact. There is no other source for that sound. Tighten the belt, odds are high that will fix it.
