Is there anything from installation to installation that would keep one SL40 from working in another's rack? IOW, pull a working SL40 out, and plug in the "test" unit, it should fire right up, correct?

I loaned my SL 40 to a buddy while his was getting worked on, it just slid in, and was good to go.

Correct, you should be able to swap them out. Settings may be different, but it should work. Good luck...we'll see how good of a job UPS did!
