Got my seat foam this week (used Conforfoam from Hi Tech Foams, as recommended by many on here). Put in the recommended three layers and found out some things.

1) Even tho I'm only 6'4", I'm very glad I got the tall pilot option. I just about have to duck to get the canopy closed and have just a little more than space for a hand to slip between the headset and the canopy.

2) With my parachute on, I need to go with no seat cushion at all. I have a Butler seat chute (exact model is no longer made) that I got for flying an open cockpit biplane where I had not nearly enough leg room, but unlimited headroom. In an RV-8, I might do better with a seat back, but if I slide much more forward my knees will hit the panel, which is what happened to me in the Van's built example.

Just wanted to share. Now on to putting some cover on these cushions, now that I know how much I need. Still haven't talked my passenger into trying it on for size yet.
