Quick pirep for the other builders with the Showplanes canopy setup.
The usual hidden GPS antenna location is under the cowl, top of the firewall. With the Showplanes setup we have a glass cover above the instrument panel and the canopy honeycomb, glass, a flox bead, and plexiglass above that.
Did a check the other night... a 696 external antenna was easily receiving through the panel and canopy assembly, indoors, including through the shop roof. So, install a little shelf above your EFIS and and you can put the GPS and XM antennas right there with the rest of your electronics.
