I installed the Vetterman exhaust to my O320-B2B quite a while ago. Now that I'm getting close to flying, I'm looking very close at things.

The thick Vetterman exhaust flange plus the thick gaskets has made it so that the studs don't protrude past the exhaust nuts in most places. I dread pulling the majority of the studs out and replacing them since the chance of breaking one is probably pretty good.

Are there thinner gaskets out there?

Are there thinner 5/16"-18 nuts out there?

Yes and yes. You could replace the flexitallic gasket with the copper-asbestos and gain 1/16. Also, the downdraft lycomings like navajos etc. use a low profile self-locking nut that will work with an AN960-516L.
