I was doing a little work on the panel today, and ran into a clearance issue with a D-Sub connector - there wasn't room for a standard back shell. I removed the back shell entirely for now - the wires are just fine, not being moved around, and stain-relieved with a loop - but I'd like to put some kind of enclosure on the connector. Does anyone know if there is a "low clearance", or maybe a right-angled back shell for D-Subs?

Your post said "S-Sub". Assuming you meant to type "D-Sub", try this:

Whoops - yup, "D-Sub" - dang spell checkers......

Thanks Craig, but those still look too long -I need something about half the length of a normal back shell, or I'll just go without - it's all behind the panel anyway.

Paul....I have the same problem with a Stein Dynon harness.

My Dynon D-180 37 pin D-sub connector is just about 2 inches long...

The best straight 37 pin one I could find on the Mouser pages is this one at 40 mm long.

Probably good enough for my RV-6A application.

Stein's guy also said that I could intsall it with no backshell, but like you, I prefer some support back there....
