I'm New Here
Hi all, first post in advance of an RV8 build. Can someone give me the lenght of the wing spar? Currently building a small workshop where I would like to store the wings when built.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know the exact length offhand but it's pretty close to the 10' mark. I can measure when I get home tonight if no one chimes in before them.

9' 7" overall finished length (includes end rib flanges). Does not include fiberglass wing tip.

Help me, guys

I'm not building an 8 (long story but it involves RV4 wings) but I have a question, please. All of the Vans construction/drawings I've seen has a similar design philosophy; spars spliced together in a "box beam" type center section. So, my basic assumption would be the spar length is 1/2 the air frame span minus the wing tips (plus the ~ 1" of spar extension for construction). My assumption was you'd round to 23'/2 - ~8' (depending on wingtip), so just over 10.5 feet. Where's the missing length? What am I assuming wrong? Your knowledge is appreciated. My apologies to the OP for any thread hijack. Trying to get smarter here. Thanks

For RV-7,8,9,10, and 14, there is only a stub spar that bolts to a built up fuselage center section. Different from an RV-3,4,6. The stub spars on my -7 spars only go 5-1/4 inches inboard of the wing skin.

Thank you, Sir. I've seen that stub spar type construction in Piper world. Not ready to say it's better than the spliced spare construction I incorrectly referenced but I trust Vans engineering. I'm sure it makes the construction easier. Thanks for sharing and getting me more knowledgeable.

Thanks guys, I will make the correct size to suit. Now all us UK builders need is a better exchange rate :-(
