Hello,

I've done much reading, but still have a few questions before I drill the main gear legs to the motor mount of my 7.

The mount is off the plane, so I plan to feed the tail off the reamer through the hole first, then pull it through with the drill.

It seems there are two different sized pilot holes in the motor mount. Forward one is larger, aft is smaller. Pulling the reamer thru the larger hole first, smaller last, seems more stable.

I do have some "play" if I twist the gear leg (not drilled yet). I believe this is just the undersized tail of the reamer allowing this.

  • Is there anything I need to do to center the gear leg in the socket before pulling the reamer through, or will it "self-center" as I remove material?
  • Do I need to try and clamp the gear leg and socket somehow to prevent rotation while drilling?

Thank you very much!!!
