How often do these fail? I’m replacing mine for noticeable but not catastrophic seepage at pressure.
 
If I use steel fittings instead of aluminum is more torque required when attaching the hose ends?
 
I installed steel fittings in both of my oil coolers. I think the clocking specified determined the torque applied. Be sure to back-up the fitting during installation.

Edit: I misread your question. I installed the hoses onto the steel fittings using the specified torque in the plans (section 5?).
