I just received my Koger sunshade for my RV8. Looking over the installation instructions I realize that the shades retract to the middle of the track, instead of fully aft like on the side by side aircraft. Before I install the shade I'd like to hear if anyone has any objective opinions on this type of arrangement. How obstructive is it in the retracted position for the pilot, for the pax???
Thanks

I had the same misgivings before flying with it. It turns out to not be obstructive. I have flown in Widget's RV-8 and not noticed it, regardless of flying attitude, if you know what I mean. It is a great addition. Just install carefully and enjoy the upcoming sun-season.

+1. Don't even notice it's there in the retracted position. Even though it
is not as effective as in my old -6, it does a decent job in the -8A.

The shade slides in a aluminum channel that is double sticky taped to the
canopy. Easy install, put a piece of masking tape on the center outside of
the canopy, bend the channel to match the canopy. Clean the inside of the
canopy with alcohol and attach the channel using the tape line on the outside
as a guide. The most time consuming part is bending all the bows (that hold
the fabric shade) to match the canopy shape. I did spot super glue the
shade to the bows as the bows have significant bend.

The below link is a picture of a 6/7/9 shade. the -8 shade is very long and
narrow.
