Big day today! I transported Scott Hersha up to the paint shop in Dayton to pick up his plane. I'll post the pics and let Scott comment.

A stopover for lunch at Frisch's Big Boy at MWO.
Scott's, Jon's, Greg Reese's, and Bud Newhouse's RV8's.

The final faceoff.

Since Scott and I fly alot of formation together, we thought it might be cool to have similar paint schemes. We chose identical colors, with schemes similar to our past planes, and identical checkerboard rudders.

On the flight back from the paint shop, it appears Scott has maintained his 1 knot advantage with everything firewalled. Oh well!

Well..... maybe for now. Jon doesn't have the fairing that goes below his horizontal stab on yet. That may be worth a knot. We'll see. Our two RV-8's are very similar. The only real difference is our props and canopies. When the weather warms up a little, we plan on switching props as a test to see what the difference. Jon has a BA Hartzell. I have a Whirlwind 200RV.

It sure was nice to have friends help me with my re-assembly and escort me back home. I am very satisfied with my paint job and would recommend Terry Dunlavy in Phillipsburg, Ohio. We used Dupont Imron.

Looks great Scott!! I immediately recognized how your new paint scheme is similar to your prior 6. I do assume you will have have her down this way at the Kickoff Flyin on March 7. Course Black Magic is going to be 2 knots faster.......

Dana,
Thanks. Something has to change for me to get to your Fly-In. I'm scheduled to go to Teter-hole for Falcon recurrent training over that weekend. Maybe I'll get lucky and something will come up to dash our plans - hope so. That part of New Jersey is no place to be this time of year. Plus 4 days at Flight Safety's 'STEEP TURN ACADEMY' is not much fun....

Birds of a feather?

imitation is a high compliment

Even the nose draggers know a classic style when they see it!.... Randy, I followed your -8 site for many months as I was building my -7A 2002 - 2005. The paint scheme shows the influence. I just had to swap a color though. Hope to see you and Scott at S&F 09.

Yup, like it....

Also the inspiration for our Chapter logo. Mine is a derivative of the theme with a little of the Vans "swoosh" thrown in.
