APACHE 56

Before I start grinding away at some structural parts let me check with you guys on the elevator stop. The issue is that to attain the up el of 25-30 degrees the plans state words to the effect that you may have to remove some of F-812(?) the elevator stop. After very carefully setting up the empennage I can get only about 18 degrees up el. That means considerable "grinding" of the el stop.

In addition to grinding the stop, you will probably have to grind the bottom aft part of the elevator horns to preclude them from contacting the aft bulkhead web below the angle/stop before the horns contact the actual stop.
Good luck,

One more point

Lesson learned: Use the cord of the elevator for your angle measurement, not the top of the elevator surface.

Yes, you could go to all the trouble of trying to measure via the "chord" or you could do it the easy way and set the elevator neutral, lay a digital level on top of the elevator, note the angle reading then adjust as required to get the 30 deg. difference.
