I had a binding latch mechansim in my baggage door and couldn't tell where it was binding. I just fixed it by removing the all the surrounding sheet metal (obviously, I haven't riveted yet 
) and putting the door back on so I could see the slide rod and plastic guide. I could easily see the offending plastic and trimmed it with a pointed Exacto knife. It slides like a dream now.
