RAY DIESEL

I'm New Here
I have aprox 35 hours on this rv-6a with a o-320 engine. When i built this i insulated/soundproofed the entire cockpit/cargo area with 3/8/black foam from aircraft spruce. The firewall has the ceramic blanket with 1/2" insulation on the inside of the firewall. my problem is when i fly the plane it gets hot all around the brake area and lower fuselage. this is not blowing in anywhere as the area is completely sealed. Is this a comman problem? Also, can anyone tell me about opening up the bottom of the lower cowl for better engine cooling. I removed the nose wheel upper faring that attaches to the cowl and it lowered my oil temp about 10 degrees but i would like something permanent. thanks

Not sure about your lower front cabin excess heat problem.

Regarding opening the cowl, having heard how the -A models had cooling trouble, I cut about an inch and a half off the aft edge of the lower cowl scoop. I almost wish I hadn't, as I now have had to install the oil cooler vent assembly sold by Van's to get my temps up in cooler weather.

YMMV
