In my flying RV-8, I am looking to install my smoke tank in the rear baggage area. To run the feed hose forward to the exhaust, the best way I can see to do this is to drill through the bulk heads and spar. How have you done this and have you gone through the spar?

(I feel uncomfortable running it in the control rectangle cut out).

Thoughts?

no smoking???

Galen,
funny nobody has tuned in yet....but just my observation, most -8's have that fabulous fwd baggage locker, and seems many guys put the smoke oil tank in there...up to 5 gal?
seems much simpler, cleaner, smell & spill-wise, plumbing etc.

I'm sure you have a good reason, perhaps you need 10 gallons of oil for your full IAC routine? :D

Will the smoke tank and hose be a permanent install? I doubt Van's will bless the drilling of the spar which you should heed. Check with them.

Go through the cutout

On my 4 I went through the cut-out. Not the same as an 8 but not that different. Would not drill the spar. Just make sure the hose is secured on each side.
