I would like to know where I could purchase wedges? I am planning to use one on my aileron and wondering where would be the best location to place it and what to use to attach it?

Avery has wedges, I think. You can make your own out of wood for a trial. Place it near the inboard end. Start with double sided tape so you can remove/adjust/lengthen/shorten.

wedges

Can anyone tell me why a tab is not preferable to a wedge? Easy to install and easy to adjust. I must be missing something. Doug Dahl

Wedge

On my RV6 I used the balsa trailing edge for model airplanes and sold in hobby shops. Bought a piece, trimmed until right, painted like the airplane, held on with clear packaging tape. Has been there 12 years including some flying in rain. I am amazed at how well it is holding up.

RV12 - trying to work out exactly the right place to bend that firewall to bulkhead fuel return line.

RV6 - finished in 1999, still doing great

Avery wedge works great!

No need for aileron trim tab. Trailing edge squeezing works great. DO it A LITTLE BIT AT A TIME! Small squeezes make big differences. Avery wedge works great. I used one full tab on left side. Looks good and won't get bent accidentally like a trim tab. See here: http://www.mykitlog.com/users/display_log.php?user=BigJohn&project=639&category=0&log=123536&row=38

John:

In my case, even significant squeezing of the light aileron (or flaperon) did not correct the heavy right wing. It only partially corrected the problem and we reached a point where additional squeezing was not possible due to the trailing edge of the ribs. I consulted with Vans and they suggested trying the trim wedge instead- that has solved my problem. I may be in the minority and am not sure why mine was so difficult to resolve. I am strongly considering an aileron trim system longer term so that it can be adjusted for any flight condition.
