I am trying to decide whether to rivet the top forward skin on my RV-9A slider without clecoing it entirely in place first. I can rivet much of it myself without having to draft someone to help. But will the holes line up with the longerons doing the riveting this way? I have heard that some folks cleco the skin into place to make sure the holes all line up.

Hi Mike-
Should be no problem. I riveted as many as I could reach under the skin before clecoing it to the longerons. I think I was able to get all but the last 4-5 on the panel and subpanel above the longeron before clecoing it down. Had no trouble with the remaining holes still lining up with the longeron holes.
Hope this helps.

You might want to put at least a few clecos in every line of rivets all the way around just to make sure everything is lined up, then remove what you need for riveting access. It might be possible you could get one side clecoed and still not be quite lined up on the other.
