Need help...Anyone?? When riveting two layers of aluminum, when one is thicker...does it matter structurally...which side has the manufactured head vs the shop head??? Provided there is no other reason to call it out specifically??? Thanks...

My understanding is that the structural reason for putting the shop head on the thicker material is so that the thinner is not deformed by the riveting process. Other than that, no big deal. I have swapped them around depending on bucking bar or squeezer access and have been told it is no big deal...

I agree with Thomas that the shop head should go on the thicker side when practical to minimize deformation of the thinner material. However there is no rule to this end. Either way is totally acceptable.
