Hi,

I just saw the post with the great photos of the aircraft on the ice in Norway. I noticed a couple of -4's without wheelpants. I would like to be able to remove my wheelpants for the winter, but am concerned about the gear leg fairings rotating/twisting on the gear as the wheelpant prevents rotation.

How are folks securing the gear leg fairings while the wheelpants are removed?

Thanks,

Dean

Securing Fairings

Hi Dean,

We have the "old-fashioned" two-piece metal leg fairings. The piano hinge on the aft end is safety wired in place. They have a small tab at the lower end that is secured to the end of the gear leg with a cushioned hose clamp. They work just fine sans wheel pants. The upper fairings remain in place to maintain alignment at the top, and the hose clamp/tight fit of the fairings does the same with the lower end. Fiberglass fairings can be secured in a similar manner.

Cheers,

Vac
