On a humorous note, the topic came up tonight in conversation...wonder if anyone has ever put down "Airplane" for the Model on the registration form? :)

After all, you can put anything you want, right? LOL!

Yep

Thanks Steve, for prompting my memory.

We tore down and rebuilt our own o-360, for our 6A, from a Mooney that was tornadoed.

The DAR asked us for the A&P signed overhaul papers but there weren't any...we're not A&P's so he turned down our airworthiness request.

I was flabbergasted, so I called an old A&P friend and Glasair/RV builder for advice. He said to remove the data plate from the engine, turn it over and re-engrave it and call the engine a "Smith-Morgan O-360," or something like that.
Superior, Aerosport and others do something similar, so I followed his advice, called the DAR back and he only looked at the re-installed data plate and we were off in Phase 1...:)

Best,
