Getting ready to do my first annual...

Looking over the checklist (MM section 18), it asks for oil pressure & temp, CHT, EGT, etc. and asks you to record for "idle & operating temp" both pre- and post-inspection.

It's unclear to me how/when to record this data. Does "idle" mean as soon as oil temp reaches 120 degrees? Or does it mean at operating temperature but with the engine at idle speed? Should these temps be recorded on the ground or in flight?

Just curious how other people have interpreted these items...?

Having just completed my condition inspection, I waited until the engine was above minimum operating temp. 122* and went through a normal run up and ignition check, followed by recording all of the information on the checklist.
