I was a part of this organization started by Paul Poberezny for a short time
before it disbanded but I did not get a copy of the letter mentioned in the message below.
For me personally, so much ill feeling has been generated in organizations lately that
I don't have much hope for them but I wish them luck. You judge for yourself.
Here is the information received from Jeff Lange.

All,

Off topic a bit but I think important to us all...

As some of you know, I have been working with Ed Fisher to help get
SAA back off the ground. Here is a little history taken from a letter
sent to formers members:

The Sport Aviation Association is an organization founded by Paul H.
Poberezny in the late 90's to help maintain what we know as grass
roots aviation. It is important that you know that we are not in
competition with EAA. We want to compliment EAA's efforts and help
retain the heritage of the amateur aircraft builder and restorer. Our
mission is not political - it is simply to encourage the fun,
fellowship and camaraderie that is so special and unique to aviation.
We encourage SAA members to meet at, and take part in the many EAA
events that already exist.

In 2005 Paul realized that the workload was overwhelming, and in his
"golden years" decided to disband the SAA. In the spring of 2012, Paul
and Ed Fisher discussed the current state of grass roots aviation and
it was agreed that Ed, a former SAA member, lifelong homebuilder and
EAA hall of famer should bring it back to life.

SAA will be sending out its first newsletter at the end of September
with the intention of reviving the To Fly magazine with the purpose of
education thru our 'how to' and informative articles with helpful
hints and safety notes for builders, restorers and pilots. Member
articles are welcome!

As it was in the past SAA is entirely a donation based Association.
Donations can be sent to SAA, and we will have PayPal capability soon.

Check it out here: http://www.sportaviationassociation.org/ - Drop by
the online forum and sign up as well (link on the main page).

Please pass this info around. It would be great if one of our RV
pilots could post this on the Van's forum!

For what its worth, Ed is also an avid race plane builder, Formula 1
and Formula V pilot, and is a partner with me in promoting
"affordable" air racing. Air racing has always been part of grass
roots aviation!

Thanks,

Jeff Lange

I received my membership card this week. Appears that there are already 3,000 + signed up.

I just sent Ed a note to find out of my existing SAA membership is still active. I do hope that the SAA enjoys a rebirth and growth.
