I wanted to use a few -6 hose fittings from my collection of parts the other day to fix a fuel line that had more strain on it than I was comfortable with.
The fittings were the standard Aeroquip style fittings and had been previously used by me. This style of fitting works by shoving a piece of metal tubing inside of the rubber hose tubing, and a surrounding circular 'blade' penetrates the rubber itself. Once you install and remove this type of fitting, the last 1/2 inch or so of the hose is damaged and must be cut off if you want to re-use it. Anyway, my problem is that these previously used fittings now have residual rubber wedged into the very small gap between the blade and the metal tubing components, and I havent found anything that is small enough to fit in there and yet still be rigid enough to pick out the residual rubber. Hate to think these relatively expensive fittings have to be tossed out due to a bit of rubber in them, but unless I can get it out they are not usable.

Anybody have any tips for removing the rubber?
