Looks good Frank. Did they deal with that under warranty or did you have to pay? (I'm wondering if mine will do the same after the first couple flights!)

Good luck with your next couple flights.

Be sure to check the alignment pin holes for proper depth.

After the new starter is bolted on, try shinning a light at the back of the mating surface, and look at the front for any gaps.

Good luck.

Does not

Frank,

Was that caused by a kickback? Do you run a Lightspeed Ignition?

necessarily mean it kicked back..In fact the collective thoughts think otherwise..More like a faulty casting or the pin at the front too long for the hole maybe.

Frank 1..Not Frank S..Thats Frank 2, cus he finished his airplane after me..:)

RE:Info on incident and afetrmath

Hi

I am running dual PMags.
There was no kick back.
Its was serviced and fixed under the Emag Warranty provide by SkyTec. BUT....SkyTec said that my starter was part of a batch that had a new type of casting. They said send it in and they would fix it.

This thread will give more detail:

So tomorrow I will be off to 1L8 to get this new starter on and continue Phase 1.
The aircarft has 3.8 on the hobbs...........

Hi Mike

Bolted the new SkyTec starter to the case and checked the alignment and fit.
The fit was excellent...both in pin depth and starter surface to engine case surface.

Pulled the plane out of the hanger for a static test...Worked great.

Post checkup showed no visable problems.

We continue Phase 1 tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions very insightful and helpful.
