A builder of an aircraft passed away and had the plane deregistered. The Plane is for sale, can it be re-registered? At a loss here anyone have any ideas?

Paperwork? More info needed.

Are the pink slip (8130-7), aircraft registration, and operating limitations available? Logbooks?

You said dataplate: if the dataplate only is missing, you can easily replace it.

Check the N number on FAA.gov . See if the aircraft registration was cancelled.

Please post more info.

The aircraft registration was canx. Previous owner wanted to keep his name away from the aircraft as much as he could for liability issues. All pictures, logs and op limits are available.

About the only thing the family can do is sell the airplane as unregistered parts.

Perhaps a new owner could take the parts and prove to the government that they were at least 51% amateur built and re-register with the new owners name but he would not qualify for the inspection authorization.
