I am building an RV4 with Sam James cowl and AFP vertical injector. I have Vans standard filter box. I am told that the cowl will need modification to clear the air filter box. The James intake tubes appear to preclude supplying air from the cooling intake. It would be nice to eliminate the snorkel and streamline the cowl. Does anyone have suggestion how to get filtered air to the engine without a modified filter / snorkel "patch" on the cowl ?? For a casual flyer, not performance oriented, does ram air make any difference ??

The AFP fuel servo can be mounted in any orientation. Have you considered a Superior cold air sump to mount it horizontally?

I mounted my AFP servo horizontally with the existing vertical sump hoping for more ram air effect but not sure it helps. Likely better than the snorkel, though.

This was taken during the build last year and replaced the x-over to trombone exhaust for clearance. Not sure your -4 has enough room for this. Don at AFP has the parts to do it.
