I just finished riveting the stiffeners on the rudder skins and all went well.

I began assembling the rudder skeleton per vans plans by clecoing R904 to the rudder spar and enlarged the center hole as directed to 3/8ths.

Low and behold as I looked this hole is way too big for the R 904 rib. What I mean is there is only a small bridge on the bottom of the flange. No way does this seem right, but double checking the hole it is indeed 3/8th's as called for on the plans.

Any thoughts?

That's it

As I recall mine looked about like that. :) The rib flange gets sandwiched between the spar and the rudder horn and is held together by 4 rivets and the 3/8" bearing.
