I was at the hangar working on a pattern for a new forward baffle in the lower cowl and I always look everything over when I have the cowl off. I noticed that there is a gap between the metal part of the baffle at the top of cylinders #1 and #2. The baffle for the other two cylinders have a lot more material in this area and they appear to be in good contact. The gap over 1 & 2 is obviously a pressure deformation which can easily be sealed with Dow 736 RTV. I have done a lot of modification in the lower cowl that has given me a 4kt speed increase over the previous stock configuration of my airplane and I wonder if the gaps I saw were unique to my current configuration or if others are seeing the same thing with unmodified lower cowls?
