I have an opportunity to purchase a plane that I have had my eye on for quite a while. The only issue I see is the gentleman who owns it got it from a bank repo and never registered it in his name and long ago lost the bill of sale from the bank. The registration still shows in the former owners name. Are there any options or is it destined to become beer cans?

Buyer beware, I would think. Without a paper trail, how do you know the true history of the plane?

bank repo should have kept copies of transactions. He could go back and see if they can reproduce a duplicate bill of sale?

And Logbooks are a big part of determining the value and history? Sometimes repoed airplane logbooks get lost
