I was tired of scratching my head for the past 4 or 5 days working on the electrical design, so I decided to jump back to something "easy" and install the fuel pick-up and sender in the left wing. After scratching my head for another hour I could not figure out how the pick-up could be installed as shown on page 16A.....the inlet hole was simply too close to the spar for the "L" shaped pick-up to fit as shown. I finally looked at the right wing, looked the same as the Left but I removed the Right access cover anyway to study it. After working on all the pieces around and around I finally realized that the access covers must have switched when they were installed on the QB wings!! Put the Right cover on the Left wing and rotate it 180 degrees and problem solved!!! What threw me was the 'flat' spot that had been made in the cover. On BOTH of my wings it was up against the spar, which seemed logical to me, I kept trying to work the pieces keeping the flat spot against the spar - page 16A shows a completely round cover on most of the drawings except for Anti-Rotation Detail which showed the flat spot....that was ultimately my clue.

Anyone see a problem with my "solution"???

I think I'll go back to something "EASY" like the electrical system design!!!!

Your last picture is correct. The flat spot goes forward to clear the reinforcement stamped into the rib.
 
Mel is correct regarding the flat spot. I had the same issue with the sender plates on my QB wings. One other issue I discovered, is that I received 2 left plates. Pay carefully attention to the orientation of the nut plates for attaching the senders. It will become evident when you try to mount the sender if the float arm will not lay in the bottom of the tank. I called Van's and they sent me a new plate, rivets and nut plates to make up a cover for the right wing.

If you are using the float type senders dont forget to turn the L. float around to clear the tank stiffner, float will hit and not go all the way to the bottom of the tank.
