After installing the magnetometer in the rear fuselage (and checking that it worked and redoing my D-sub connector connections) we riveted on the rear top skin yesterday afternoon. All very satisfying, it was except that because of the magnetometer mounting it's impossible to get a bucking bar into position on four rivets that would go through the upper skin, lower skin and top longeron. The normal rivets to use in that site would be AN426 3-6. I thought I'd use a pulled rivet - but an MK319BS (which is only slightly oversize for diameter and would have done nicely) doesn't have the grip length - the head ends up inside the hole in the longeron. I see that there is a Cherry rivet available in the -3-6 size from a local supplier here in England, but not listed in the Vans catalog (http://www.lasaero.com/part.php?part=CCR264CS3-6). Has anyone used these? Any views on whether they would be suitable in this location? Anyone know of any other alternatives?

Thanks

Chris

Chris,

The next length up from the 319 is the 321BS monel rivet with .020" longer shank.

You should be able to get them from LAS.

The CCR264CS3-6 are not structural rivets they are designed to hold nutplates on. They have an open center when installed.

They may work for your application if it did not require a solid driven rivet and is not fastening something flight/structure critical.

We as many other stock this item.
