Bought Vans budget poly grip. Only need PTT. Can't find a picture or any referrence to the type of switch or how it would be mounted in this grip.

Grip has a recess and what appears to be a keyway slot or anti-rotate slot. I'm thinking there is a switch that this was designed around. I have seen a flat plat mounted to the top of a similar grip but would rather not add to the height.

I used this grip on my -4. You will find that the top button location is not very ergonomic. I drilled a hole for a button lower down the grip where it is easy for the thumb to push. I used the top hole for my smoke system switch. A dime fits perfectly into that recess so I actually mounted the swtich in a hole in a dime and pressed the dime into the recess.

I have never seen a switch with an anti-rotation feature that extends out from the threaded shaft. What I have seen that might work in this application is an anti-rotation washer which has a bent down tab.

....or a 'flat' machined on one or both sides, so the 'hole' is racetrack shaped, and keeps the switch from rotation.
With a PTT..... obviously not an issue.
funny, just had my builder & friend replace the PTT after 6 years and 100 hours, so how many cycles is that?...would be nice to find the buttons from a video game controller, rated at 100,000 frentic pushes!!! :)
I did like that the new one goes 'click' when you push it....sometimes I'm not sure how far I had pressed the old one, with gloves on for instance.
( I'm sure digikey and such suppliers have the real skookum ones!)

Top hole is for coolie hat switch, which does need an anti-rotation tab.

Vans says an optional PTT hole may be added.

From the looks of the grip, I would put the PTT in the front, above where your index finger naturally lays. Basically the top of the front bulge area.

Or, get a Tosten grip.

Are you going to install an autopilot?? nice to have a disconnect switch on the stick for an AP----------Tosten has a grip with only two switches, perfect for a PTT and a AP disconnect already installed. http://www.tostenmanufacturing.com/catalog/aircraft-grips/cs-2-aircraft-grip.html#

Budget build, Mike. No frills like A/P. Rock sales slow recently...:cool:

I read the Vans page when I bought it but assumed if a coolie switch would go in, there should be a momentary to fit the hole also. Maybe do a front button and plug the top hole.

So anyone drill and install a trigger position switch in this grip?
 
Reviving old thread

Not in the air yet but I agree with an earlier post that the top mounted PTT is not very ergonomic. Considering drilling for an index finger position. Wondering how others have done it.
