Does anyone have a good procedure for removing (and installing) cylinder hold down studs on an O-320 case? I have a couple of 3/8th studs that need to be replaced because the threads are badly damaged.

I already sent the case to get overhauled and most damaged studs were replaced but two were missed.

I was thinking of getting one of these collets with the appropriate housing but I am not sure if there is something better out there.

You're on it...these are the right (and best) tools for removing/installing studs.

Why not just use 2 nuts?

I tried this but I could not get enough torque to pull out the stud with the open end wrenches. My next plan is to use a longer wrench

Thanks Bob. I am just going to pull the trigger on the order. It has been sitting in my cart for a couple of days now.

Should I heat the area before attempting to remove the stud?
