All,
I am using SEM rattle can primer sometimes (small jobs) and a PPG self-etching primer (SX1031) sometimes. Does anyone know if these are acceptable for priming a firewall mounted battery box? Or do I need something that is more heat resistant?

Thanks,

should work fine

but in school the paint of choice for a battery box was bituminous paint.
a coat of sem primer then a top coat of some type will be fine. thats whats on mine.

What would you recommend for the top coat??

Thanks,

polyurethane

i simply used duplicolor black gloss.IT IS PROBALLY A LAQUER. over the same sem self etch you mentioned. if you can find a polyurethane that would be even better. a hight temp gloss paint would be fine as well but the high temp paints that go by ULTRA HIGH TEMPARATURE are really useless as far as i can tell and rub off easily.
